Are you questioning and checking in on your thoughts?

If you’re not, you are believing every single one.

The day I learned thoughts created feelings was a time I’ll never forget. I was reading the book “Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy” by David Burns where he talked about how this extremely high percentage of our thoughts are skewed in one way or another AND THESE THOUGHTS CAUSE ALL OF OUR EMOTIONS.

It blew my mind in the best way. Imagine 97% of the crazy thoughts running through your head every day are creating how you FEEL in life. And if you aren’t aware of it, you are absolutely being controlled by them, rather than generating your own feelings by choice.

Here are the top 10 mental errors or “cognitive distortions” people make:

1. All or nothing thinking
2. Over-generalizations
3. Minimizing or Magnifying (Also Catastrophizing)🌪
4. Should-ing
5. Labelling
6. Jumping to Conclusions (Mind-Reading, Fortune Telling)
7. Discounting the positive
8. Blame and personalization
9. Emotional reasoning
10. Mental filter

Seeing this list it becomes easier to realize that while you might not consider your thoughts “lies” or completely untrue, they are mostly likely skewed in one way or another.

I’ll be going over all of these one by one but just seeing the names of these distortions, which of them resonate with you the most?

How would your life change by minimizing these distortions?
